To Wacom or not to Wacom

This is the same shot, done twice, once exclusively with a Wacom and the other with my usual inks on paper then scanned it in. I timed it for both, at around 45 min. The experiment was to see if I should work straight on the Wacom, I think the verdict is in... what do you think? (second picture is the Wacom drawing)

PCH Point Mugu

Got out of the car on the side of the road and did this quick sketch.

Watercolor piece I did off the balcony of our condo on the honeymoon.

Lobo and Guy

The companion piece to the previous. These are my pencils and inks (W&N series 7) that I did while looking at the cover of a JLI. No lightbox here!

breaking the rules

Already started breaking the rules by putting up some drawings I did outside of the Moleskine notebook.

This is an homage to a comic book cover my Kevin Maguire.

Camping... with Color!

Thought I would change up the brush ink work with some color.

Shipwreckes

Surf spot in Mexico, I went to a while back.
Inks with a little wash too.

Emma Wood beach

Another beach you say? Heck yes! This one is a little north of Ventura.

pen and inks

French Quarter

During a conference at work, in New Orleans, which I loved, I stood on the street for 10 min and sketched this out with a rapidiograph.

Cruise

Aboard the BIG cruise ship, I took some time for a rapidiograph sketch.

Using sticks to draw the islands

Thought I would be different and NOT use brushes or pens, so I used a stick on the ground and dipped it in the ink on the Santa Cruz Channel Island. Kinda fun. Put some color on one of them.

Disneyland

Recognize this? The new tomorrow-land.

Malibu state park

Do a lot of sketches when I'm camping. inks and my Sable brush.

Rincon

Rincon beach. After surfing a made a quick sketch.

El Capitan

Quick sketch at the beach north of Santa Barbara.

Marines

Brother joined the Marines, this is the base for the boot-camp. rapidiograph.

C-street

Threw a little color on the ink drawing, from the pier.

Pirates

I love costumes. Pirate Faire in Ojai. rapidiograph sketches

Zoo

Rapidiograph sketches at the Seattle zoo.

more backpacking

The 4 day trip offered me chances to do more drawings. I always take my sketchbook and brush/ink with me.

Forest

Brush and ink. Used creek water to clean the brush. Beautiful place and a great day backpacking.

House

I really like this one. When I have time to sit for a minute and really do a piece, it can turn out kinda nice. This is a house over in Campo, CA.

Vancouver

In Vancouver, CAN for a conference. Used a brush, while not considered the most appropriate tool for buildings, I think it's kinda fun.

woman

I think this turned out pretty good.

W&N sable brush. ink. Morning at a campsite.

Camping

Malibu State Park. Brush and ink

Sequoias

Very hard to show the scale of these MASSIVE trees without a person in the shot. This burned out tree, hollowed from the fire was enormous.

Brush and ink.

Hike

Another hike. On the trail you can only get little sketches in and it's always a bit rough, but you get the idea. Through some water in there for a wash.

Birdie

rapidiograph. I like the way the line worked on this. It's a crap shoot sometimes, cause I don't use pencils, I go straight on the notebook with the ink.

Nevada Falls

On the way to Half Dome, at the top of Nevada Falls. Ball-point pen. Couldn't bring the brush and inks up that high up and risk damage to all my stuff.

Hike

This is from a hike up by Ojai. Can't remember the trail name. Wish I could have put some more definition and shape to the foliage, kinda hard to tell what things are what. Color might have helped on this too.

Again my W&N brush

Park

Brush work at a park that has a life-sized cannon.

Ventura Pier

These two are at the pier, one on the pier looking at the surf-spot C-street and the reverse of that. Again, quick little brush sketches.
